178: The Trial of Roger Stone—Roger Stone

Most people flee from labels like “dirty trickster,” “buffoon,” and “prince of darkness. Presidential advisor and author Roger Stone revels in it. Splashes around in it so as to defuse its sting. Most of what you think you know about him is written by his enemies.

As this interview was conducted, Stone was facing a 40-month jail term for seven counts handed down by a twice-Obama appointed judge and a hopelessly biased jury. Time will tell whether he gets a presidential pardon.

In this episode you will learn

  • The precise content of the judgment of perjury to Congress, and why it had nothing material to do with the Wikileaks legal dispute
  • What it’s like to have your home raided at dawn by 29 FBI agents armed to the hilt, a K9 crew, and circling low helicopter—plus the presence of a CNN news truck on a blocked-off street
  • Stone’s remote Catholic past, his prayer with and by Rev. Franklin Graham, and his reconnecting with the Catholic faith of his childhood
  • How his trial and rock-bottom experience became an opening for the grace of God
  • Why exactly he never got even close to receiving a fair trial
  • His attitude on the eve, barring a pardon, of entering federal prison and the age of 67 in a time of pandemic lockdown—by all accounts a death sentence
